Bollywood Journey of Bicycles.

 


In the 50s and 60s, much of the romance in Bollywood bloomed on bicycles. There are many great romantic songs bloomed on bicycles.  When we think of the Golden Era immediately the song Mana janab ne pukara nahin  from Paying Guest comes into our mind.

The earliest cycle song was 'Sawan Ke Nazare Hain' of 1941 film 'Khajanchi'. The film starts with this song picturized on S D Narang, Ramola, and their friends who are cycling on the road. Since then The cycle romance kept blooming and almost all heroes and heroines had a cycling song in their career. In this blog, I have selected a few cycling songs picturized on various heroes.

Asha Bhonsle- The World's Most Recorded Artist.

  Asha Bhosle (Born on 8th Sep 1933) made h er Hindi film debut when she sang the song "Saawan Aaya" for  Hansraj Behl 's  Chunariya  (1948) but before that  she sang her first film song '"Chala Chala Nav Bala" for the  Marathi film Majha  Bal  (1943).   She  had sung over 12,000 songs, s he was officially acknowledged by the  Guinness Book of World Records  as the most recorded artist in music history Initially, she sang songs  in  low-budget  B- or C-grade films. Subodh Mukharjee- Freedom Fighter to the Leading Filmmaker of the Golden Era

  Subodh Mukharjee (   April 14 , 1921- 21 May 2005) was a freedom fighter, he was in jail for 3 months. His elder brother Shashdhar Mukharjee pulled him  away from the nationalist movement and engaged him film making. He started as a continuity assistant and writer He was given the first film as an independent director Munimji (1955).   The film was a hit.  The song "Jeevan Ke Safar Mein Rahi," sung by Kishore Kumar, became a super hit. The next film he directed was Paying Guest(1957), which was again a hit. He started his own banner  SMP Subodh Mukharjee Productions.  The first film of this house was Love Marriage starring Dev Anand and Mala Sinha. This was the third film in a row under his direction All three films were hit.  The next film under his direction and production house was Junglee with Shammi Kapoor.
